Investigation: Hollywood
I wrote this article about Hollywood a while ago, and since I stopped updating it, I thought I might as well release it so you can read it. There are parts that I have not included simply because I kind of lost interest in writing this (I think the vast majority of SNCTM, for instance, is not included in this article, but it seems to have ties to Paltrow and Maher. Remember True Detective season two? Nobody ever does, I don’t know why I mentioned it. Apparently SNCTM is owned by an investment group called The Circle now as well. There’s also exclusive sex parties in New York for VIPs because of course.) but maybe I will add it one day. I cannot remember the last time I updated this article either, but it was back in 2020 at the very least (before I deleted my Twitter account).
This article was published on May 18, 2021. Hopefully it does not get deleted like by NXIVM article.
Anyway, have “fun”, it is a long read:
In 1946, Scotty Bowers received a proposition from Walter Pidgeon at a gas station on the corner of Van Ness Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard, which later snowballed into a career of running prostitution rings for gay and bisexual actors and actresses.
In 1950, Bowers quit his employment at the gas station to focus full time on running the prostitution ring, which earned him clients such as Desi Arnaz.
In the 1960s, Tennesse Williams wrote an exposé on Bowers after a visit to the Beverly Hills Hotel, but discarded it.
In the 1970s, Bill Cosby acquired quaaludes from his doctor in Los Angeles.
DOLORES TROIANI: “When you got the quaaludes, was it in your mind that you were going to use these quaaludes for young women that you wanted to have sex with?”
BILL COSBY: “Yes.” — 2005–2006 Deposition
In February 1972, Roman Polanski visited Gstaad and may have raped the 15-year-old Renate Langer at his house. Langer at the time worked for a modeling agency in Munich while at high school.
In March 1972, Polanski contacted Langer to apologise for raping her in February 1972, then offered her a role in the film “Che?”, which she accepted. Langer then travelled to Rome alone to record her part, and was raped a second time by Polanski in a shared house.
In 1973, the 16-year-old “Robin M.” may have been sexually assaulted by Polanski. The day after, “Robin” informed a friend of the incident.
In 1976, Polanski visited Poland. Separarely, Polanski met Nastassja Kinski for the first time, where he would later learn her age (15-years-old) and continue to sleep with her.
The same year, Bill Cosby met with Therese Serignese for the first time at a hotel in Las Vegas, where he gave her quaaludes and a glass of water before sexually assaulting her. After this, Cosby started to send money to Serignese through the William Morris agency to prevent his wife from knowing.
“I don’t know… how many years ago are we talking about? 197[6]? … I meet Ms. Picking in Las Vegas. She meets me backstage. I give her quaaludes. We then have sex.” — Bill Cosby
In February 1977, while residing in California, Roman Polanski was hired by Vogue Hommes to photograph a number of adolescent girls. Polanski was then introduced to Samantha Gailey’s mother, Susan, as Gailey’s sister was in a relationship with a man familiar with Polanski. At the time, Gailey, then 13-years-old, had a 17-year-old boyfriend.
On February 20, 1977, in the afternoon, Polanski and Gailey attended their first photo shoot for Vogue Hommes near Gailey’s house, where Polanski took topless photographs of the 13-year-old Gailey separately to the photo shoot.
“According to published crime reports and material disclosed at preliminary hearings, the director allegedly first photographed the San Fernando Valley girl with the permission of her stepmother in February, saying it was for a French magazine.” — The New York Times
On March 10, 1977 at 04:00 PM, having returned from New York, Polanski met Gailey for indoor photographs, which led to the two initially visiting Jacqueline Bisset’s house for 15 minutes, where Polanski photographed her at the pool. After this, Polanski and Gailey visited Jack Nicholson’s house at Mulholland Drive, at a time Nicholson was away as the maid let the pair into the building. After drinking glasses of champagne, when Polanski supplied one-third of a Quaalude to Gailey, the two had sex in a jacuzzi. Anjelina Huston then knocked on the door and briefly interrupted Polanski, although he then returned to Gailey. After the event, Polanski dropped Gailey off at her house, spoke with Susan about Gailey’s asthma (which she did not have), showed the photographs (including the topless one) and then met with Robert De Niro.
“Don’t tell your mom what happened.” — Roman Polanski
Soon after, Gailey informed her mother after her sister overheard Gailey informing her boyfriend over the phone. Gailey’s mother then contacted the police.
“It was not consensual sex by any means… it was very scary and, looking back, very creepy.” — Samantha Gailey
“I’m scared and woozy, so I tell him I have asthma and to take me home. I get out, grab a towel, but he doesn’t want to take me home yet. That’s when he takes out the Quaaludes and asks me if I’ve ever had one. I lie and say yes. I take one-third. He takes what’s left and tells me to lie down for a minute. I know he wants to have sex and he is not taking no for an answer. I’m intoxicated and afraid and don’t know what to do, so I just let it happen.” — Samantha Gailey, People
On March 11, 1977, in the evening, seven police investigators and prosecutors, including Lead Detective Philip Vannatter, arrived at Beverly Wilshire Hotel, interrupted Polanski’s meeting with friends and informed him they had an arrest warrant for him for rape and that they needed to search his room. Polanski led them to his hotel room and was then caught holding Quaaludes. During the room search, the detectives collected cameras, film (which included photographs of Gailey topless and, separately, drinking campaign in the jacuzzi), slides, negatives and a vial of prescription Quaaludes.
Between March 21–27, 1977, Gailey described her rape at the hands of Polanski to Roger Gunson and two other men.
“You know, when I first met you, I promised myself I wouldn’t do anything like this with you.” — Roman Polanski
On March 24, 1977, the District Attorney brought the Polanski case to a 23-member grand jury. After 23 minutes of deliberating after the testimonies of Gailey and Susan, the grand panel indicted Polanski for six counts.
- Rape by use of drugs
- Furnishing drugs to a minor
- Lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14
- Unlawful sexual intercourse
- Sodomy
- Perversion
On April 15, 1977, Polanski pleaded not guilty, which led to the case falling under Judge Laurence Rittenband.
After April 15, 1977, the mainstream media in Europe visited Gailey’s school and friends to question her history.
“The European media wanted to develop this too. They went to Samantha’s school and house, talked to her friends, trying to learn more about the girl whose allegations threatened to bring down a veritable cult figure in Europe, where Polanski was not-so-secretly dating a 15-year-old girl, Nastassja Kinski, with no public outcry, no arrest. Samantha was cast as the temptress.” — The Los Angeles Times
On July 1, 1977, California changed their sentencing laws so that people having sex with children under the age of 18 would be sentenced to 16 months to 3 years rather than 1 year to 50 years in prison.
Before August 7, 1977, plea bargaining began to avoid a trial due to Gailey’s family being concerned about further trauma to Gailey. The case was held by Judge Rittenband, and a letter was read from Gailey’s family requesting rehabilitation rather than incarceration for Polanski.
Also before August 7, 1977, Polanski was ordered to be examined by two court-appointed psychiatrists, one of whom was Dr. Alvin Davis.
On August 7, 1977, Polanski’s prosecutors announced that Polanski would plead guilty to one felony count, which Lawrence Silver agreed with due to the mainstream media wanting to turn the court case into a sensational trial, which was accepted by Judge Rittenband.
On August 8, 1977, Polanski pleaded guilty, as part of a plea bargain, in Superior Court for one felony count of unlawful sexual intercourse with Gailey.
After August 8, 1977, a probation report was requested, with an evaluation completed by Dr. Alvin Davis.
“A psychiatrist, Dr. Alvin Davis, who analyzed Polanski for the report, concluded there was ‘transient poor judgment and loss of normal inhibitions in circumstances of intimacy and collaboration in creative work, with some coincidental alcohol and drug intoxication.’ He described the ‘physical maturity and willingness and provocativeness of victim, and the lack of coercion by defendant and his solicitude concerning pregnancy.’
‘Incarceration,’ he wrote, ‘would impose an unusual degree of stress and hardship because of his highly sensitive personality…’”
[…]
“‘Possibly not since Renaissance Italy has there been such a gathering of creative minds in one locale as there has been in Los Angeles County during the past half century… while enriching the community with their presence, they have brought with them the manners and mores of their native lands which in rare instances have been at variance with those of their adoptive land.’
His conclusion: ‘It is believed that incalculable emotional damage could result from incarcerating the defendant whose own life has been a seemingly unending series of punishments.’” — The Los Angeles Times
Upon receivership of Dr. Davis’s report, Judge Rittenband ordered Polanski to undergo a 90-day psychiatric study at Chino state prison.
On September 19, 1977, a hearing for Polanki was to be held under orders by Judge Rittenband.
“I would say I’m a fugitive from injustice. Don’t forget that whatever happened I went to prison for it. People completely forgot about that. I went to prison, I did what the judge told me to do, I did what the district attorney and lawyer of the girl’s family and my lawyer agreed on in the judge’s chambers. That was supposed to be it. I was released from prison, and then the judge had his change of heart and decided to put me back for ‘an undetermined period of time.’ And only then I thought that I’ll be better here.” — Roman Polanski
“We pressed charges, and he pleaded guilty. A plea bargain was agreed to by his lawyer, my lawyer and the district attorney, and it was approved by the judge. But to our amazement, at the last minute the judge went back on his word and refused to honor the deal.
Worried that he was going to have to spend 50 years in prison — rather than just time already served — Mr. Polanski fled the country. He’s never been back, and I haven’t seen him or spoken to him since.” — Samantha Geimer“Also in the film are Polanski’s defence attorney Douglas Dalton, and Roger Gunson, the assistant DA who was prosecuting him. Remarkably, both men agreed that justice had been undermined by the presiding judge, Laurence Rittenband. At one point in the film, Gunson describes the legal proceedings as ‘a sham’.”
[…]
“Crucially, no one in California had served jail time for a comparable offence in the previous two years, and Dalton secured an agreement with Rittenband that Polanski’s 42 days was sufficient time served. Polanski, it now appears, fled the US because it was clear that the judge had reneged on this agreement and plamnned to incarcerate him anyway.” — The Telegraph
On December 16, 1977, Polanski started to serve 42 days of a 90-day term at Chino State Prison in California for psychiatric evaluation, which was done by Philip S. Wagner.
“Standing in a pinstriped gray doublebreasted suit, the 43-year-old director of ‘Rosemary’s Baby’, and ‘Chinatown’ replied, when asked what crime he had committed, ‘I had sexual intercourse with a person not my wife, under the age of 18.’ He said he knew the girl was 13 at the time.” — The New York Times
“Polanski was released after 42 days of his 90-day term, but here the story gets complicated. Polanski had been led to believe by Rittenband that after Chino, his time behind bars would be over. However, the judge was overheard boasting at his country club that he would put Polanski away ‘for 100 years’.” — The Independent
“‘There was no evidence that the offense was in any way characterised by destructive or insensitive attitude toward the victim,’ wrote Philip S. Wagner, Chino’s chief psychiatrist. ‘Polanski’s attitude was undoubtedly seductive, but considerate. The relationship with his victim developed from an attitude of professionalism, to playful mutual eroticism… Polanski seems to have been unaware at the time that he was involving himself in a criminal offense, an isolated instance of naivete, unusual in a mature, sophisticated man.’” — The Los Angeles Times
Upon receivership of Wagner’s report, Judge Rittenband rejected it as a whitewash.
On January 30, 1978, Judge Rittenband met with Gunson and Dalton in his chambers as sentencing was scheduled for February 1, 1978, where he stated his intention for Polanski to complete his 90-day sentence at Chino and then voluntarily deport himself, or serve a longer prison time.
In February 1978, Polanski was informed by Dalton of Judge Rittenband’s suggestion about prison time, then drove to Los Angeles International Airport and fled the United States on a British Airways flight instead of facing his sentencing at a Santa Monica criminal court to avoid prison or deportation. Soon after, Polanski’s visa was revoked.
On February 14, 1978, Dalton filed a motion to disqualify Judge Rittenband due to prejudice against Polanski.
After February 14, 1978, Judge Rittenband removed himself from the Polanski case.
In 1979, Martin Amis met with Roman Polanski in Paris to interview him, first in an apartment and later in a German restaurant.
“When I was being driven to the police station from the hotel, the car radio was already talking about it. The newsmen were calling the police before I was arrested to see whether they can break the news. I couldn’t believe… I thought, you know, I was going to wake up from it. I realise, if I have killed somebody, it wouldn’t have had so much appeal to the press, you see? But… fucking, you see, and the young girls. Judges want to fuck young girls. Juries want to fuck young girls — everyone wants to fuck young girls! No, I knew then, this is going to be another big, big thing.” — Roman Polanski
“Looking 16, of course, does not entitle you to go to bed with adolescents. Despite what Polanski says — contra Polanski — not everyone wants to fuck young girls. One cannot hide behind a false universality: one cannot seek safety in numbers. Most people who do want to fuck young girls, moreover, don’t fuck young girls. Not fucking apparently willing young girls is clearly more of a challenge. But even Humbert Humbert realised that young girls don’t really know whether they are willing or not. The active paedophile is stealing childhoods. Polanski, you sense, has never even tried to understand this.” — Martin Amis
In June 1980, Polanski visited Poland.
Before March 27, 1981, Nina Darnton met with Polanski at the Victoria Hotel in Paris for an interview.
On March 27, 1981, Nina Darnton published the article “Polanski Planning to Direct ‘Amadeus On Polish Stage’” in The New York Times, where in the 14th paragraph it mentions Polanski’s guilty plea and his fugitive status.
In 1982, Janice Dickinson was sexually assaulted in her hotel room in Lake Tahoe by Bill Cosby after he provided her with a pillhe claimed would help with menstrual cramps.
“Here was America’s Dad on top of me. A happily married man with five children, on top of me.” — Janice Dickinson
The same year, Anthony Lysette met Harvey Weinstein for the first time as she starred in Krull.
On October 31, 1982, Robert Lindsey published the article “PERVASIVE USE OF COCAINE IS REPORTED IN HOLLYWOOD” in The New York Times, which suggested that William Morgan Hetrick was a major supplier of cocaine, and that Robert Evans had been charged with possession of illegal drugs.
“Police investigators in Los Angeles contend that cocaine and other drugs are sold routinely on many film and television production sets. Drug dealers, some of them riding in chauffeured limousines, make regular rounds to the homes of executives, performers and technicians in the film, television and rock music industries, some of whom are spending as much as $1 million a year on cocaine.” — The New York Times
In 1984, Polanski published his memoir, “Roman by Polanski”, which named Geimer under the alias of Sandra, where he claimed it was consensual and that Sandra was previously affiliated with drugs and sex.
“And most important, he will soon start directing ‘Death and the Maiden,’ based on Ariel Dorfman’s play set in a fictional country much like Chile. The story centers around a woman who wants her husband to help her take revenge on a doctor who she says once tortured her. When Anjelica Huston signed on to play the woman, the casting added one small, inscrutable twist to Mr. Polanski’s dramatic life story.
In his 1984 autobiography, ‘Roman by Polanski,’ he writes that he was charged with rape only because Ms. Huston testified against him. He has always said that what occurred at Jack Nicholson’s house that day was not a rape but a willing seduction of an experienced teenager. According to the autobiography, when the Los Angeles Police later searched the house they found some cocaine in Ms. Huston’s purse and agreed not to file charges against her if she would testify that she had seen Mr. Polanski in the house. Doesn’t he have any hard feelings about that? ‘Well she was sort of forced into that position,’ he said, and gave a slyly ambiguous laugh. ‘I wouldn’t say coerced.’” — The New York Times
The same year, during the production of “Playing For Keeps”, Harvey Weinstein requested a female crew member to visit his hotel room, where he sexually abused her, leading to her informing Alan Brewer and another crew member of the incident — she declined to file a police report at Alan’s urging.
In 1985, Fleiss and a friend attended a party at a mansion in Beverly Hills and then met Bernie Cornfeld, which led to a 4-year affair.
In 1986, Jeff Berg, chairman of ICM, reached out to District Attorney Ira Reiner and requested a review of Polanski’s legal status in an attempt to prevent jail time. District Attorney Reiner requested Berg to request a review through an attorney, and Berg had Arthur Groman of Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp reach out to Reiner. District Attorney Reiner agreed to have staff conduct a review of Polanski’s legal status.
The same year, Chelan Lasha (17-years-old) was invited by Bill Cosby to meet him in his suite at the Las Vegas Hilton for Cosby to advise her on her modelling career. In the suite, Cosby gave Lasha a pill and alcohol, then sexually assaulted her.
Also the same year, Polanski met with Emanuelle Seigner for the first time when she was 18-years-old.
Also the same year, Anthony Rapp met Kevin Spacey at a celebratory event for the productions of the broadway shows “Precious Sons” and “Long Day’s Journey Into Night”, with Rapp being invited by a 17-year-old friend. Spacey then invited Rapp and Rapp’s friend to the nightclub Limelight, where Spacey invited Rapp to a party in his apartment in Manhattan a few nights after. Rapp then attended Spacey’s party, and stayed in the bedroom out of boredom and not knowing anybody, only for Spacey — possibly drunk — to climb on top of Rapp and attempt to seduce him.
Before March 28, 1986, which was the release of the film Lucas, Corey Haim was violated by an adult male on the set.
“Haim started to confide in me, about some intensely personal stuff, very quickly… within hours of our first meeting, we found ourselves talking about Lucas, the film he made in the summer of 1985, the role I had wanted for myself. At some point during the filming, he explained, an adult male convinced him that it was perfectly normal for older men and younger boys in the business to have sexual relations, that it was what all the ‘guys do’. So, they walked off to a secluded area between two trailers, during a lunch break for the cast and crew, and Haim, innocent and ambitious as he was, allowed himself to be sodomised.” — Corey Feldman
After March 28, 1986, Corey Feldman hired an older assistant, who performed oral sex on Feldman after having him take a cocktail of pills.
After December 17, 1986, Howard Weitzman reached out to Polanski to offer his assistance
On September 10, 1987, nine men were charged with child pornography offences after a 2-year, 6-state investigation, which included Robert Villard, an agent for child actors.
Before November 22, 1987, friends of Polanski started to work the scenes in an attempt to allow Polanski to return to the United States. Polanski also acquired a Hollywood agent and finished filming the movie “Frantic” for Warner Bros.
“MUCH later, and back in the United States, Harrison Ford mulls the question that so many of Polanski’s Hollywood friends — Jack Nicholson, Robert Evans, Warren Beatty, Dustin Hoffman — have periodically debated over the last 10 years: Is America ready for Polanski again?” — The Los Angeles Times
“I would certainly like to see him back. But I think Roman would have to make expressions of remorse. And somehow you like him a lot better for not being remorseful. He’s not defiant. But he’s not remorseful.” — Harrison Ford
Also before November 22, 1987, Michael Cieply met with Polanski at a restaurant in Paris for an interview. One evening, Cieply, Polanski, Emmanuelle Seigner and Paul Rassam toasted to Michael Cimino during a dinner.
On November 22, 1987, Michael Cieply published the article “In Exile: It’s Been 10 Years Since Roman Polanski Set Foot in Hollywood. Now He Has a New Movie — and Friends Are Quietly Trying to Arrange His Return to Los Angeles” in Los Angeles Times.
“In real life, Seigner — a teenage model, a former street mime and the granddaughter of Louis Seigner, a famous actor with the Comedie Francaise — has been Polanski’s lover for at least two years.
She is as exotically beautiful as was the 18-year-old Nastassia Kinski when Polanski, then Kinski’s lover, cast her in the title role of ‘Tess.’ Seigner’s English is weak, and she has never had a major film role, although she appeared in Jean-Luc Godard’s ‘Detective’ in 1985.” — The Los Angeles Times“Polanski has always had a penchant for beautiful, young — often teenage — girls; he doesn’t bother denying it. There was his first wife, the Polish actress Barbara Kwiatkowska, who was a teen when they married; his second, the American actress Sharon Tate; a teenage Nastassia Kinski; his third and current wife, Seigner, whom he met when she was 18 and he was 52; and countless other adolescent conquests. He writes in his autobiography, rather casually: ‘It was now that Kathy, Madeleine, Sylvia and others whose names I forget played a fleeting but therapeutic role in my life. They were all between 16 and 19 years old, schoolgirls no longer but not yet worldly-wise women with professional or marital ambitions…’ He picked them up from a finishing school in Gstaad, Switzerland. ‘Sometimes, while waiting at the wheel with the engine idling for warmth’s sake, I would wonder what the hell I was doing there.’” — The Washington Post
In 1988, due to an argument between Fleiss and Cornfeld, Fleiss returned to Los Angeles and attended a party at Helena’s, where she met Ivan Nagy, which led to a relationship between the two.
On December 31, 1988, Gailey filed a civil damages suit against Polanski at a Santa Monica courthouse titled “Jane Doe vs. R. Rpolanski”. This led to Gailey acquiring a photograph of herself taken by Polanski and an agreement that Polanski would pay $500,000.00 plus interest, but Gailey would later have difficulty collecting the monies.
- Sexual assault and battery
- Intentional infliction of emotional distress
- Negligent infliction of emotional distress
- False imprisonment
In 1989, Fleiss and Cornfeld ended their relationship.
The same year, Elizabeth “Madam Alex” Adams met Heidi Fleiss for the first time, which led to a working relationship where Fleiss acted as an assistant. At some point, Adams introduced Fleiss to Anthony Brooklier.
“Nagy, Fleiss said, introduced her to Adams, the Beverly Hills Madam. But Nagy remembers it differently. The day he told Madam Alex about his new love, he got a surprise.
‘She said, ‘yes, she is working for me,’’ Nagy said.” — The Washington Post“They were a match. ‘She has always been a sparring partner,’ recalls Nagy. Yet in 1989, Heidi claims, Nagy sold her to Elizabeth Adams, known as Madam Alex, then the most powerful madam in L.A., in order to settle a $450 gambling debt. Nagy denies this vehemently. ‘Obviously, I didn’t want her to work,’ he says, ‘ and the last thing I wanted to do was sell her to Alex.’
‘That was his job,’ maintains Heidi. ‘He’d sell people to Alex. Alex had him collect money. Scare girls. Do errands. For this, she’d get him laid. And pay him too.’ A month before she turned 23, Heidi says, Alex and Nagy sent her out on her first ‘date.’ ‘I got fucked up on drugs,’ she recalls, ‘cocaine and quaaludes. And they talked me into having sex with an Arab at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, for $5,000. He was so nice. He paid me in traveler’s checks and I gave $2,000 to Ivan. I wasn’t scared because I was fucked up.’” — Vanity Fair
In 1990, Harvey Weinstein settled a sexual harassment lawsuit with an assistant in New York.
The same year, Anthony Rapp informed his boyfriend at the time about Spacey’s interactions with him in 1986.
Also the same year, Sophie Dix was cast in a film with Colin Firth, “The Hour of the Pig”, when Weinstein invited Dix to his hotel room after an initial meeting prior at the restaurant Joe Allen. Weinstein then pushed Dix onto his hotel room bed, which led to Dix attempting to flee the room, only for the door to be blocked by Weinstein masturbating. Dix eventually fled the hotel room, and later informed her family, friends and colleagues of the incident. Weinstein later contacted her months later and informed her to stop talking about the incident.
“As soon as I was in there, I realised it was a terrible mistake. I got to the hotel room, I remember talk of a massage and I thought that was pretty gross. I think he showed me his big back and I found that pretty horrid. Then before I knew it, he started trying to pull my clothes off and pin me down and I just kept saying, ‘no, no, no’. But he was really forceful. I remember him pulling at my trousers and stuff and looming over me and I just sort of — I am a big, strong girl and I bolted… ran for the bathroom and locked the door. I was in there for a while, I think. He went very quiet. After a while I remember opening the door and seeing him just there facing the door, masturbating, so I quickly closed the door again and locked it. Then when I heard room service come to the door, I just ran.” — Sophie Dix
Also the same year, Jody Diane “Babydol” Gibson started her own illegal escort service in Los Angeles.
On or around December 25, 1990, Weinstein contacted Dix and apologised for the hotel room incident, suggested he was turning over a new leaf and offered her reimbursement of some form for it, which was declined.
In the 1990s, Kim Masters met Harvey Weinstein for the first time during a lunch, where she mentioned the rumours about him raping women.
Also in the 1990s, Harvey Weinstein became friends with Fabrizio Lombardo, and the two started to attend the Cannes Film Festival together from 1995 onward.
In the early 1990s, before October 21, 1994, Rosanna Arquette met with Harvey Weinstein in his hotel room at the Beverly Hills Hotel to collect a script, instead of the original setting of a dinner, where Weinstein wore a bathrobe and requested Arquette to give him a massage. Arquette declined only for Weinstein to force her hand onto his visible penis.
In 1991, Chad Shackley and Marc Collins-Rector founded the organisation Concentric Research.
The same year, Heidi Fleiss started to become involved in running her own prostitution business with Ivan Nagy based out of a cottage in Hollywood, having learned from Elizabeth Adams. Fleiss then ended her relationship with Nagy. Nagy responded with harassing phone calls, to which Fleiss contacted Michael Nathanson. At some stage, Fleiss hired both Claudia Carnesella (girlfriend of Art Natoli) and Samantha Burdette.
“According to a law enforcement affidavit, the prostitutes charged customers $1,500, and Fleiss received 40 percent. Women who said they worked for Fleiss said they were paid not only in cash, but also by checks, some of them drawn on real estate and movie production companies.” — The Washington Post
“Police said Fleiss, 27, has catered to a wide Hollywood clientele. The Times reported Sunday that she socialised with a number of celebrities, including rock star Billy Idol, producer Robert Evans and actress Victoria Sellers. Gossip columns reported recently that an unidentified executive at a major studio may have used movie development funds to procure prostitutes.” — The Los Angeles Times
Also the same year, Brandi McClain was introduced to the Fleiss operation through a friend she ran with in Central Park in New York, receiving Fleiss’s telephone number. A few months later, McClain contacted Fleiss over the telephone, and one month later, spent time in Las Vegas entertaining a wealthy man.
“She rarely got sent to the biggest spenders — the Middle Eastern dignitaries — because she was deemed ‘too skinny,’ she said. But she was suitable for the next tier.
‘There were kids of celebrities, celebrity kids, trust fund babies, one [European] billionaire,’ she said. Most often, her clients were younger business types who would introduce her as their girlfriend, or assistant or, simply, a friend. She discovered she had a talent for massaging their egos. She acted as if each home were a mansion, each gold record or Oscar a chunk of the crown jewels, each trick a one time adventure.” — The Los Angeles Times
Also the same year, Harvey Weinstein started to request massages from an employee at The Weinstein Company, Laura Madden, while they visited hotels in Dublin and London. Madden later informed Karen Katz about the incidents with Weinstein.
In 1992, David Gritten had lunch with Roman Polanski during his shooting of “Bitter Moon”.
The same year, Harvey Weinstein may have committed a sexual assault on a woman in West London.
The same year, an alleged sexual incident occurred in West Hollywood involving a man and Kevin Spacey.
Also the same year, Anthony Rapp informed Erin Quill about Spacey’s interactions with him in 1986.
Also the same year, Fleiss’s father purchased a home from Michael Douglas in Benedict Canyon, which Fleiss and Victoria Sellers proceeded to reside within, as did Brandi McClain as a live-in assistant. Fleiss then frequented bars, including Jack Nicholson’s Monkey Bar and Mortons, and spent time with people such as Elliot Mintz.
“She knows major, major people. But I never asked what was going on in that, um, other part of her life. I figured that was her private thing.” — Victoria Sellers
“Sheen’s rather Rockwellesque fantasy was cheerleaders. He’d have Brandi or Susi or another cute little blonde dress up in a cheerleader outfit and pretend she had a big game the next day. The girls often fell in love with him — Brandi would write out ‘Brandi Sheen’ over and over again.” — Vanity Fair
“[Judy Geller] said Fleiss told her she was making $60,000 a month in 1992 from her 20 high-priced call girls. In 1992, Fleiss listed income of $33,000 on her federal income tax return, which prosecutors say was fraudulent.” — The Associated Press
Also the same year, Dylan Farrow was sexually abused by Woody Allen in her family home.
“What’s your favorite Woody Allen movie? Before you answer, you should know: when I was seven years old, Woody Allen took me by the hand and led me into a dim, closet-like attic on the second floor of our house. He told me to lay on my stomach and play with my brother’s electric train set. Then he sexually assaulted me. He talked to me while he did it, whispering that I was a good girl, that this was our secret, promising that we’d go to Paris and I’d be a star in his movies. I remember staring at that toy train, focusing on it as it traveled in its circle around the attic. To this day, I find it difficult to look at toy trains.” — Dylan Farrow
Also the same year, Jody “Babydol” Gibson released a series of billboards across West Hollywood’s Sunset Strip to advertise her song, “Good Girls Go to Heaven, Bad Girls Go Anywhere”. After July 23, 1993, Eliza Dushku filmed the movie “True Lies” in Miami, where she was allegedly sexually molested by Joel Kramer in a hotel room in Miami. Dushku then informed an older brother, her parents (Sue Booth-Forbes was Dushku’s legal guardian and Judith Ann Rasmussen was Dushku’s mother) and two adult friends, JoAnne Colonna (Dushku’s agent for 3 years at the time) and Peter Conti, about the incident. Dushku later suffered an injury on set, where her ribs were broken. Colonna contacted Rae Sanchini to discuss Kramer’s misconduct with Dushku while filming happened in Miami. When production was moved to Los Angeles, Dushku informed Colonna of Kramer’s actions. Colonna reached out to Mali Finn about Dushku’s situation.
“I remember, so clearly 25 years later, how Joel Kramer made me feel special, how he methodically built my and my parents’ trust, for months grooming me; exactly how he lured me to his Miami hotel room with a promise to my parent that he would tkae me for a swim at the stunt crew’s hotel pool and for my first sushi meal thereafter. I remember vividly how he methodically drew the shades and turned down the lights; how he cranked up the air-conditioning to what felt like freezing levels, where exactly he placed me on one of the two hotel room beds, what movie he put on the television (Coneheads); how he disappeared in the bathroom and emerged, naked, bearing nothing but a small hand towel held flimsy at his mid-section. I remember what I was wearing (my favourite white denim shorts, thankfully, secured enough for me to keep on). I remember how he laid me down on the bed, wrapped me with his gigantic writhing body, and rubbed all over me. He spoke these words: ‘You’re not going to sleep on me now sweetie, stop pretending you’re sleeping,’ as he rubbed harder and faster against my catatonic body. When he was ‘finished’, he suggested, ‘I think we should be careful…,’ [about telling anyone] he meant. I was 12, he was 36.” — Eliza Dushku
“These allegations are entirely untrue. While filming True Lies, I treated Ms. Dushku with respect and was protective of her safety and welfare as is appropriate to my position as a stunt coordinator. A film crew is like a family, and Eliza was always treated and protected as a member of the family. I never behaved in any way inappropriately with her. I was never in a position where I was alone with her and even while working with her on set, her female stunt double was always there to help her into her harness, offer support and ensure her wellbeing. I did not ‘lure her to my hotel room’. I understand the culture in Hollywood has been historically unfair to women and I applaud and support women who are standing up and pointing out these injustices. It is unfortunate, however, that this new culture allows a person to destroy the life and livelihood of a person with false accusations.” — Joel Kramer
“I found out about it a few weeks after it happened. Eliza confided in me. As far as I know I was the only man she told. Her agent contacted the female producer several times and nothing happened. I confronted the pedophile at the opening of TL and security got in the way. I thought for sure me and the scumbag would meet again, unfortunately we haven’t yet.” — Peter Conti

After this, McGowan informed Messick of the encounter, had a conversation with Affleck and then attended a press conference.
“She declined to share the details of the encounter. ‘That’s my story to tell,’ she said emphatically. But she said that she walked out of the hotel suite and directly into a press event. She remembers fighting back tears, and the conversation with Mr. Affleck. She said she told Ms. Messick, then of Addis-Wechsler & Associates, what had occurred. ‘She held me,’ Ms. McGowan said. ‘She put her arms around me.’” — The New York Times

“With the connection to a whale like Uzan — the archetypal ‘easy client,’ a filthy-rich guy more interested in courtship than fornication — Nici’s business went supernova. She already had a line into the Playboy Mansion; one of Hefner’s girlfriends was willing to solicit other Playmates and girlfriends, who are given a weekly ‘allowance’ of $1,000. Now, when the girls heard they could make $25,000 by flying to Turkey for a few days, there was no shortage of them willing to sign up. ‘Hakan would send me an instant message at 3 a.m., and I would have to get four Playmates ready right away,’ says Nici. ‘The first flight to Istanbul was around 6 a.m. through Paris, and sometimes I’d wake them up in the middle of the night for that flight.’” — The Rolling Stone

“Condé Nast, the publisher of Vanity Fair, suffered an early blow to its case after Polanski was able to provide documents proving he had flown directly from his home in London to Los Angeles for Tate’s funeral.
The publisher insisted the alleged incident had taken place some weeks later, when Polanski visited Elaine’s with the actor Mia Farrow, star of Rosemary’s Baby.
But Farrow told the court Polanski had been in no mood for seduction on the night in late August 1969 when she met him in Elaine’s, and that he had ‘brushed off’ two women who tried to flirt with him.” — The Guardian

[…]
“‘He didn’t rape a 13-year-old,’ Tarantino told Stern. ‘It was statutory rape. That’s not quite the same thing… he had sex with a minor, all right. That’s not rape. To me, when you use the word rape, you’re talking about violent, throwing them down.’
Quivers told Tarantino that Polanki’s victim had been given psychoactive drugs and alcohol before being assaulted. The director still denied the sexual encounter could be deemed a rape.
Tarantino replied: ‘No, that was not the case at all. She wanted to have it and dated the guy.’”
[…]
“He went on: ‘I don’t believe that’s rape. I believe it’s against the law. I don’t believe it’s rape. Not at 13 — not for these 13-year-old party girls.’
Quivers told Tarantino that Polanski could have avoided the situation by not socialising with 13-year-olds, to which the director responded: ‘He likes girls’.” — BBC News

“I said, over and over, ‘I don’t want to do this, stop, don’t’. I tried to get away, but maybe I didn’t try hard enough. I didn’t want to kick him or fight him. He’s a big guy. He overpowered me. I just sort of gave up. This sordid element of Weinstien’s life isn’t mentioned in Down and Dirty Pictures, though the book does contain numerous anecdotes about Weinstein’s grotesque behaviour towards employees (slamming tables, tearing phones out of walls, telling a subordinate to jump off balcony). Still, at the time he was reporting it, Biskind tells V.F. he did hear whispers about Weinstein’s alleged sexual misconduct, which he says was ‘an open secret’ in Hollywood.” — Vanity Fair

BILL COSBY: “Andrea came to the house. I called her… we talked about Temple University. We talked about her position. And then I went upstairs and I got three pills. I brought them down. “The story I reported never ran. After intense pressure from Weinstein, which included having Matt Damon and Russell Crowe call me directly to vouch for Lombardo and unknown discussions well above my head at the Times, the story was gutted. I was told at the time that Weinstein had visited the newsroom in person to make his displeasure known. I knew he was a major advertiser in the Times, and that he was a powerful person overall. But I had the facts, and this was the Times. Right? Wrong. The story was stripped of any reference to sexual favours or coercion and buried on the inside of the Culture section, an obscure story about Miramax firing an Italian executive. Who cared? The Times’ then-culture editor Jon Landman, now an editor-at-large for Bloomberg, thought the story was unimportant, asking me why it mattered.” — Sharon Waxman, The Wrap

The arrangement was a first for the United Kingdom.

Furthermore, as a father of four children, one of whom is a 12-year-old daughter, I find it equally outrageous that this story is considered defamatory to a man who can’t be here because he slept with a 13-year-old girl and has been a fugitive from justice for more than a quarter of a century.” — Graydon Carter

“Now having had nine years to process it, it finally is clear to me how wrong Kevin’s behavior was. Not because of how it made me feel. Again, I think being male, and roughly the same size as Kevin, meant that I never felt physically unsafe. My dad was in the room, and I could have alerted him at any time. It didn’t make me feel traumatized, and instead I spun it into a funny story. Kevin Spacey came on to me! He’s famous! Haha!” — Harry Dreyfuss

You think you’re going to meet them and you’re so excited, like, ‘I can’t believe this person wants to have a conversation with me,’ and you get there and you realise that’s not what they want, at all. It’s happened a lot this year actually. There are some guys talking about actors who have been in the business for a while, who are very egocentric and have been able to sleep with a lot of girls for whatever reason, and because they don’t know me they think I’m going to be this little cupcake, this Marilyn Monroe type who’s going to bat my eyes and be like a receptacle for them. I just shut them down immediately, right in front of people. It’s been so long since someone has told them no, they don’t really know how to deal with it. Because of this non-reality they live in, they’re fucked up, psychologically.” — Megan Fox

I remember the incredible love and affection that people have for him.”
[…]

It might an exaggeration to say he’s a new Harvey but he went through some difficult times and I think it made an impression on him.” — Peter Biskind

Since Dimension started, we ran two separate companioes. So many of the people that he does business with — actors, actresses — I’ve never even met and they know it. I wanted to lead a separate existence. So we were leading two separate divisions.
I was actually quite aware that Harvey was philandering with every woman he could meet. I was sick and disgusted by his actions. But that’s the extent of what [I know]. I first heard about Bryan Singer’s ‘infamous’ coke and twink pool parties when I was 18 and was at some party in Orange County that a bunch of dancers from Disneyland were at. One of the twink dancers bragged to me and my friends about how the weekend before he was at a party in L.A. that the director of Usual Suspects was at and the white twinks, coke and meth were falling from the sky. The twink dancer said that Bryan Singer and his fancy Hollywood friends always throw parties like that and when I asked him to take me to the next one, bitch said, ‘Uh, you’re not white, skinny and cute enough, though.’ Leave it to a bitchy blond Disneyland dancer with white highlights and blue contacts to save me from gay Eyes Wide Shut Hell. — Michael K.

But according to a handful of sources who spoke with Gawker over the course of the last week, he was known as the most generous and active benefactor of a scene that allowed the young and impressionable to rub up against Hollywood elite — including prominent writers, directors and actors — leaving behind bitter memories and a sheaf of newly filed lawsuits.”
[…]
“ It’s a scene, our sources said, in which a good-looking young person can easily ingratiate himself with the legitimately powerful. Executives like Ancier and Neumann hosted the same crowd as Singer at their own homes a decade ago, according to a gossip blogger named Lucas John who often attended the gatherings. One might run into actor Kevin Spacey — who was spotted years ago partying with Singer and a group of boys by one source, a security guard who worked at the Chateau Marmont — or screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, who is notorious in L.A. for having the same taste in men as Singer and who frequented his parties years ago. On the recording, which I have heard in full, Weinstein lists actresses whose careers he has helped and offers Gutierrez the services of a dialect coach. Then he presses her to join him in his hotel room while he showers. Gutierrez says no repeatedly; Weinstein persists, and after a while she accedes to his demand to go upstairs. But, standing in the hallway outside his room, she refuses to go father. In an increasingly tense exchange, he presses her to enter. Gutierrez says, ‘I don’t want to,’ ‘I want to leave,’ and ‘I want to go downstairs’. She asks him directly why he groped her breasts the day before.
‘Oh, please, I’m sorry, just come on in,’ Weinstein says. ‘I’m used to that. Come on. Please.’

According to her story, Weinstein told her that if she wanted to act, she should come to his office — at which point he proposed a threesome between the two of them and Olivia Wilde. (The model declined both the threesome and the meeting, and, fearing retribution from the famously vindictive Weinstein, has so far declined to go on the record with the story.
Another journalist we spoke with had heard similar stories, all secondhand — an indie film producer had told her that stories of Weinstein’s behaviour will ‘make Bill Cosby look like a monk.’ People in the film industry, she said, understand Weinstein’s M.O. to be the following: he holds ‘casting sessions’ at his office on Friday evenings when he can be alone, and that he greets women in his bathrobe.” — Gawker

He was also sexually abusing Henzi. ‘He showed me porn,’ Henzi says about Weiss in the film. ‘And he said, ‘oh, these are clients having sex with their managers’’. The sections of An Open Secret about Weiss are bracingly stark and intimate. In one scene, taken from a home movie of Henzi’s birthday party, Weiss gives another young boy a back massage against a hair. ‘I’m getting a massage and it feels great, and I don’t care whether or not it looks bad,’ says the boy, provoking nervous laughter from Henzi’s mom, who is shooting the video.

While Singer, 53, had some good moments, one insider says, he was ‘emotionally very frail,’ often unprepared and late to set. If challenged about his behaviour, he sometimes cried. Meanwhile, there were the usual distractions, this source says. With me, there were some molestations, and it did come from several hands, so to speak, but with Corey, his was direct rape, whereas mine was not actual rape. And his also occurred when he was 11. My son is 11 now, and I can’t even begin to fathom the idea of something like that happening to him. It would destroy his whole being. As I look at my son, a sweet, innocent, 11-year-old boy and then try to put him in Corey Haim’s shoes, I go, ‘Oh my God — well of course he was erratic and not well-behaved on sets and things like that’. What more could we expect of him really? Everybody deals with things differently.”
[…]
SETH ABRAMOVITCH: “Are these people still working in Hollywood?”

From Thursday to Saturday, I called more than 40 entertainment industry players, and almost all refused to speak for the record. Some said it was because their companies (or publicists) needed to approve anything they would say, while others gave reasons that painted a picture of a community hobbled by fear, self-interest and hypocrisy. ‘Ladies of Hollywood,’ Rose McGowan, one of the actresses who settled with Mr. Weinstein, wrote on Twitter on Friday, ‘your silence is deafening’.
A publicist for an A-list actress said there was no ‘upside’ for her client to comment, especially since she did not have a movie to promote. One producer wanted to know who else was on the record so he would be ‘quoted in good company’. An agent said he was repulsed by the silence and quoted a Latin phrase meaning, ‘he who sits quietly gives consent’. Then he refused to talk.” — The New York Times

These stories are true. At the time, I said to myself that what I did was O.K. because I never showed a woman my dick without asking first, which is also true. But what I learned later in life, too late, is that when you have power over another person, asking them to look at your disk isn’t a question. It’s a predicament for them. The power I had over these women is that they admired me. And I wielded that power irresponsibly.” — Louis C.K.
